 | Levon Aronian, Peter Leko and Ruslan Ponomariov won the Tal Memorial round robin tournament with 5.5/9. Boris Gelfand was 4th with 5 points. The 20th category tournament was dedicated to Mikhail Tal, the 8th World Champion, who reigned in 1960-61. Mikhail Tal would be 70 on November 9, 2006.
The Tal Blitz Cup, an 18-player double round
all-play-all event, is held on November 18-19. This will be one of the
strongest blitz tournaments of all times. The field consists of 9
participants of the Tal Memorial, 6 qualifiers and 3 specially invited
players – Vishy Anand, Judit Polgar and Anatoly Karpov. The time
control is 5+2.
