The qualifier to the Tal Blitz Cup has finished around 4:30 p. m. Dreev, who led after the first day, slowed down by making two 1-1s against Malakhov and Kasimdzhanov, and was surpassed by Jobava. The leaders met in the Round Seven and drew their individual contest, after which Dreev was replaced on the board one by Lautier. This somehow affected Dreev’s play in a bad way, as Alexey eventually failed to qualify, losing to Radjabov 0.5-1.5. Jobava-Lautier was extremely exciting match-up with both players missing wins on various stages of their games. In the Round Nine Jobava made two quick draws with Bologan, as well as Radjabov and Jakovenko. These players secured their seats in the Tal Cup. The other two were Sergey Karjakin, who won the last game against Lautier on demand, having Black pieces, and Artyom Timofeev, who made a spectacular leap on the second day, scoring 8.5/10 after first day’s -2 disappointment.
